The Importance of Grounding Yourself and How You Can Benefit from It

Grounding, or earthing, allows people to directly connect their bodies with the Earth and use its natural energies to stabilize them.

There are several types of grounding techniques you can do to ground yourself:

  1. Walking outside barefoot

  2. Laying on the ground

  3. Swimming or taking a bath

  4. Gardening

Additionally, here are a few ways you can reconnect with the Earth in your daily life.

  • Take a walk: Take a few minutes out of your day and connect your bare feet to the ground by walking on grass or across some sand. Pay attention to how the grass or sand feels beneath your feet.

  • Play in the dirt: Dig into the Earth and get the soil between your fingers. Gardening can be a great way to do exactly this. You can also take a beach trip and decide to make some sandcastles and feel the sand on your bare hands.

  • Ground yourself indoors: When going outside is not an option, you can take a calming bath or shower and connect yourself with the water.

Grounding may have several benefits that you may want to consider:

  • Improve your mood.

  • Improve your sleep.

  • Reduce stress.

  • Improve your immunity.

  • Reduce inflammation.

Take in consideration that with any practice, results and experiences may vary. Consult a licensed professional if you may want to consider grounding as part of your health practice.

For me, I consider grounding as an important practice in my health and spiritual life. When I ground myself, I imagine the energies of the Earth enter into my body, while old energies that I may be holding leave and neutralize into the Earth. It's like a cycle of energy flowing in and out of my body. After I do this routine, I get a sense of renewal and I feel like my whole body went through a reset.

Quick Grounding Meditation

Bring yourself to a quiet and peaceful location. Sit in a chair with your knees bent and your feet planted flat on the ground.

Close your eyes and imagine a golden light glowing from beneath your feet. As you focus on this golden light, you can see it slowly entering the soles of your feet. The light is very warm and very calming.

Next, imagine the light rising into your calves and then your knees. After your knees, you can feel the light entering your thighs and then parking at your tail bone.

Imagine this light glowing even brighter now. It's breaking up any stress you may be holding on to. Your tailbone is where your first chakra is located. This chakra is the foundation of your body, and it's responsible for keeping your body grounded.

Now, imagine the old energies breaking apart, leaving your body, and releasing into the center of the Earth. This is where the old energies are neutralized.

Take a moment and be present. How do you feel? Can you feel the stress leaving your body?

Open your eyes and take a deep breath in and out slowly.
